History of Cyber Black Friday

Cyber Black Friday is the Friday following Thanksgiving Day and marks the beginning of the online holiday shopping season. The term was coined in 2009 following the deluge of online retailers’ Black Friday promotions. Like its brick and mortar counterpart, the discounts on Cyber Black Friday are typically the largest of the holiday season to entice consumers to shop early. This year, it falls on November 26th, 2010. More than 1000 online retailers are expected to have Cyber Black Friday promotions.

In 2009, Gian Fulgoni of comScore said, “Black Friday, better known as a shopping bonanza in brick-and-mortar retail stores, is increasingly becoming one of the landmark days in the online holiday shopping world.”
